BRINGING YOUR BUSINESS TO LIFE
What are you going to create today?
Do you feel caught in a trap; in a downward spiral? Are you looking for the golden bullet that will save your business, the advisor that will give you the key to unlocking the opportunities that you haven’t found, or the killer application that will have your business take off like Apple’s or Google’s? And do you consider the current economic crisis as the reason why you are not being successful?
Many people do – and that is why the word “crisis” is everywhere. It is an omnipresent state of mind. And of course there are many concrete examples to feed the fire. Businesses are going bankrupt, people are losing their job and others are being forced to sell their house. That is very real. Should that hold you back?
The starting point of a turnaround is with you. There are many examples off people who against all odds did succeed. Why? Because they believed in what they were doing, even if others didn’t. They stayed with their plan and finally succeeded. There are also plenty of people who failed despite good intentions and good starts. Why? Because somewhere in their mind they had this little voice saying that they would or even should fail. In his book “The Big Leap” Gay Hendricks describes many situations where this was holding people back. But he also shows how people get beyond that limitation.
That highlights the most important factor for success: your own attitude to what you are doing. Whether you call it passion, a strong believe, self confidence, or something else, it is your own attitude that will make the difference.
In his book "The power of TED" (The Empowerment Dynamic) David Emerald offers you the option to think from the perspective of a creator; to ask yourself “what am I going to create today?” every day. That sounds simple, but at the same time working from that perspective can be extremely difficult. It requires courage to take risk, hard work and critical thinking.
If indeed what you are after is success, it is extremely important that you really get it. The realization that your own attitude makes the difference puts the choice with you. The question it raises is: “Do you want to play or are you chickening out?”
Most people that get it also recognize the value of coaches and challengers. They realize that alone they may not be able to make the turn. Even though initially the picture is very clear to them, they know they may get lost on their way and loose the spirit. That is why they seek a coach to encourage, support and challenge. They also seek challenging opportunities to accelerate learning and growth.
We have been talking about you as an individual, but you can read this article again substituting "you as individual" with "you as a business". The conclusion is the same: the choice is with you. Do you play?
